Eating Out: Pizza Express

I recently visited Pizza Express at Xscape Braehead mainly to try their gluten free pizza and I was not disappointed.

We were taken straight to our table and given a few minutes to browse the drinks menu. Once ordered, the drinks came quickly, which I love in a restaurant. We were given the menu and I spent a very long time trying to choose what to have. I eventually choose the Rustichella pizza with a gluten free base.

The pizza came on a board topped with pancetta, roasted tomatoes, rocket, grana padano and caeser dressing. The dressing was not over powering, which I was worried about, and had just the right amount rocket. The flavours were a great combination and is something I would definitely again.

The base itself was a bit hard to cut through but was still easy to eat. I will say that it is one of the best gluten free pizza bases I have tried, so far. The base is thin and is not overly doughy, something I find a lot with gluten free bases.

I was looking forward to seeing the desert menu but will say I was a bit disappointed. The only option marked on the menu is the chocolate brownie, served with a cup of coffee. After asking the waiter I was told that the raspberry sorbet was also gluten free, without the wafer. The sorbet was unbelievably amazing. The raspberry flavour came through strongly but was not too rich.

I would return to Pizza Express in a heart beat. The only thing I would look for is more desert options but with great pizzas, it's not such a big deal for me.
